Fort Museum - Chennai

On this rainy afternoon the weather seemed perfect to wander through the Fort Museum and soak in the drizzling pieces of history housed in it. The moat was beautiful in a way filled with lush green glass however the absence of crocodiles and alligators was quite a disappointment.

If You are someone like me and has never touched your ATM card or cash in the last year and rely solely on UPI to pay your way through life then you are in luck. The entry is only through scanning a QR code and paying online. I did suffer at places where they wouldn’t accept online payment recently so this was a big relief.

As soon as you gain entry there are a few books on display for sale. A few of them caught my eye but since I have decided to be frugal recently I decided not to go there but buy those at the store where I get a discount.

Once you are successful past this testing area there stamds the statue of Willington in black and Cornwallis in white at the lobby itself . One cant help but be awed by the beauty of those sculpture pieces. I was personally impressed with the positioning of these statues. Since I was twinning with Willington I took a picture with him. Since I was too busy taking in the beautiful artwork I took pictures of Cornwallis. You must not miss the view of the antlers in this view. Adding all angles that impressed me here.

I had two options - the room with the porcelain or the armory. Since I am a soft, sweet child I naturally went into the porcelain room first and was happily surprised by the ledger on display

not for the contents of it but for the beautiful handwriting 🤍 I could spend hours watching someone write if they had beautiful handwriting and so naturally I stood around and caught a picture if it to go back and watch it whenever I wanted to. Even though I have seen that picture a few times since it was taken a few days ago I have quite honestly not read a single word in it yet🫣

The porcelain ware were not quite impressive in their design but in the way they were all sealed for use in government offices. I have added pictures of the ones that seemed nice. That had a special feature or an extra layer of work done on it like an onlay 3D fruit around the rims.

I hate the armour room but since we can’t brush past an important part of history I went in. The knives and swords were quite striking.

The medals and medallions were all very well preserved. The only thing that they all reminded me of was how they turned people against people and made them do cruel things just so one of these could be pinned on their uniforms.

The prettiest part of the collection was the cluster bomb collection. It reminded me of two things at the same time if thats  actually possible. One being the beautiful mughal architecture showcasing grapevines and the next the bombing on srilankan tamils who were then forced to lay bleeding on hot sand for weeks to die.

The same room housed a lock of the fort. For someone who doesn’t even carry the car keys knowing and has the habit of never carrying a house key this seemed like a nightmare. Attached picture may help one understand why.

A 3D mini model of the fort was kept in the room for further understanding of the architecture. One cannot miss the attention to detail in the planning of a fort for someone who entered the country only to sell and buy goods.

The first floor had beautiful paintings in one room, coins and prints in the other two.

I walked in to the one with oil paintings first. They were all quite nice but Ravi varma’s work stands a little apart from the others in his meticulous attention to detail.

This one Ravi Varma’s

This one though has noteworthy features like the fingers and the lace is definitely much different in style than his and not quite that complex.

Adding George III and Charlotte while we wait for the next season patiently admiring the resemblance Netflix has painstakingly brought to the screen.

Because it is Alexandra and the others because they are good portraits.

I am not someone who likes money. Carrying, discussing, talking, reading or worrying about it for that matter however the 3D virtual reality game in the numismatic section is one exception. Adding a few of the pretty designs that caught my eye.

The print collection was amazing. The section where they displayed the materials and methods used was mind blowing.

The artwork that caught my eye was just one where the British travellers were getting down the ships using a ladder adding that and the other collected works there.

I loved the floor in that section. I could write a separate special note on that but I think I say enough when I say I removed my slides and sat down with my feet to floor for a few moments before moving on to the archeology section in the next floor.

The 12 footer sarcophagus has given me new information about myself. I not only am scared of millipedes and centipedes I am scared of anything with more than four feet. Even if it is made of mud. Having made that sad discovery i moved on to the pottery on display.

This 3D appliqué of a lady and deer from Adichanallur reminded me of the similar figure in display at the Delhi airport. Attaching pictures of both of them here.

Since Iron age has made history recently this image of iron excavation sites seemed like an appropriate picture.

As burials are close to my heart adding a picture of burial sites here.

The National flag that was hoisted on the day of independence was on display in the next room. One cannot help but shed a little tear and feel overwhelmed by the looks of it and remember how many sacrifices were made by how many people to achieve independence. The room houses the rich history of the flag and the historic front page from ‘The Hindu’ proclaiming the birth of free India.

Since I was tired already and the rain was coming down I decided to visit the church later on and left with all the happy memories. Oh wait i have one more..

Saving the best for the last - the very recently discovered underground chamber- discovered during recent renovations- the usage, importance or value still unknown just like most of our rich history.

Kilvalai Rock Paintings

The rattaparai - kilvalai rock painting site is located very close to the city of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu.  The locals call this place rattapparai - which means twin rocks in Tamil, this could also mean blood rock which might be the name given due to the colour of the paintings. The exact location is in the taluk of Kandachipuram where agriculture is the major occupation of people till date. This might explain the crops surrounding the site and the need to walk in a very narrow path up till you climb on the exact rocks that have the paintings. The ASI has put up a fence around but its right on the rocks so I think this still is a private property. It's quite visible from the main road so once you park the vehicle and cross the short narrow path you will be climbing on the rocks.  The paintings are on top of the rocks so you will have to climb all the way up.  The way up is not steep so you can safely walk up.However you might need some good shoes with anti -slip properti...

Moon Day🤍

If I were to name this year I’d call this my year of inconsistency. I have never been quite weary of my deadlines ever in my life. This year I am just not finishing my projects if the deadline is something that I came up with and finishing them right on time if it is something that concerns others. I usually use the moon to calculate my progress. That is the main reason why most of my new book releases are around full moon days. This year during the buck moon I was in the Taj Mahal releasing the cover and first chapter of my next book. This day was also the Buddha purnima day. Since I was sitting in the mosquitoes and was quite busy with the cover designing and the next day was also a big day I did not write much that night. Originally because my mobile was dying and I did not want to be without the aid of a mobile phone till I reached my hotel room after the taj view at night.  There are two reasons why I love the moon. One is because it os always a part of the sky when I a...
